Lions Befrienders Service Association (Singapore) [LBSA] is a Voluntary Welfare Organisation which was founded in 1995 by the Lions Clubs of Singapore and a Lions District Project. We are also a registered member with the National Council of Social Service, the local social services sector’s umbrella body. Our core mission is to aid in the social, psycho-emotional and physical well-being of lonely seniors through community participation whilst upholding our belief that every older person is a valued member of society and deserves to age with grace and dignity.

Lions Befrienders
At Lions Befrienders, we believe that every older person is a valued member of society and deserves to age with grace and dignity. Through our Programmes, we strive to aid in the social, psycho-emotional and physical well-being of lonely senior through community participation.

There are two major Programmes of Lions Befrienders: The Befriending Programme and the Outreach Programme.

The Befriending Programme is a good neighbour programme which links up Befrienders (volunteers) with the Befriendees (seniors) under our care.

The Outreach Programme, conducted through our 3 Centres island-wide, provide care and support to seniors residing at the respective blocks in their neighbourhoods.

Befriending Programme
You have heard about the statistics: in year 2030, 26% of our population will be aged (60 years and above). This is a marked increase from 9.1% in 1990, making Singapore one of the fastest ageing societies in Asia.

As our population ages, there is also an increase in the number of seniors who are living alone. Currently, there is a potential number of 12,500 lonely seniors in our midst. Some do not even hear a friendly knock on the door for months. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could visit occasionally and show that you care?

Being a Befrienders simply means: stretching out your hand of friendship to someone who is waiting for it. We will provide you with the necessary training, such as teaching you how to communicate with the seniors and basic nursing care knowledge.

Quotes from Our Befrienders
“Age does not protect you from love, but love to some extent protects you from age”
– Jeanne Moreau

“Adding flavours to the lives of the elderly…. I can do it, so can you!”
– Mdm On Ah Moi, 11 years of volunteer service

Outreach Programme
At the 3 Outreach Centres, we engage the seniors in various activities to keep them active and meaningfully occupied so that they can age gracefully. A wide variety of exciting activities are organized daily for the residents to interact with each other and to gain new knowledge.
